Update of WHO guidance on treatment of drug susceptible tuberculosis
The World Health Organization (WHO) is convening a Guideline Development Group (GDG) to advise on updates needed to its recommendations on the treatment of drug susceptible tuberculosis (TB).
Drug susceptible TB affects approximately 7 million people annually. It is currently treated with four first line TB medicines for a period of six months. Approximately 85% of patients who take the six-month regimen will have a successful treatment outcome. Ensuring access to effective treatment is a key component of the End TB Strategy, which includes a priority indicator that 90% or more of patients should have a successful treatment outcome.
While the ongoing pandemic is the prominent health crisis at the moment, Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay is warning about a lingering, insidious public health emergency: opioid addiction.
In recent weeks, the arrest log has seen a large number of local arrests for trafficking, dealing and possession of drugs such as oxycodone and heroin, as well as cocaine and sometimes even methamphetamine, which Ramsay said never used to appear in the Florida Keys.
Speaking from his office at the Marathon substation recently, Ramsay pointed out a woman being brought down the hallway in handcuffs, arrested that day for dealing. She is one who Ramsay describes as a âfrequent flyerâ with the Monroe County Sheriffâs Office.

Due to the cancellation of last yearâs physical event, the wool week committee invited Malcolmson to continue her patron role for 2021.
Da Crofterâs Kep features traditional Shetland motifs and has been designed in five distinctly different colourways using Shetland wool from Jamieson and Smith, Jamiesonâs of Shetland, Uradale Yarns, Shetland Handspun and Foula Wool.
